You need to know what your customers are searching for. You need to know what words your customers will use when searching. If not, find out.
This is why keywords for SEO is so important? Is it a description of “pants” or “shorts?” One may be searched more often than the other, but why not target both?
How about “yoga socks?” Maybe “yoga straps” will broaden your website marketing strategy. Ask all kinds of people.
Believe me, your keywords are one the most important aspects of your website, even more so than content, and I’ll explain why in a minute.
That’s how search engines work. Let me ask you something. Go take a look at the keywords. Just after the tag in your home page’s source HTML. Let me guess what they say.
What Is Your Brand?
They have in it the name of your website, the name of your product.
Few, very broad keywords such as “yoga” or “make money online.”

So, when someone you meet on the street asks you what your website is about, what do you tell them?
Let’s go with the yoga example. You tell them, “Oh, our site is all about yoga.
We have a whole section on Manduka yoga mats and other brands of mats, a section on the best mats and yoga props.
Now, go check out your keyword marketing phrases. Mats, blocks, yoga clothing.
Well, those few words are what the search engines are looking for when they come to check out your site. They come and find your keywords.
You’re telling them your site is all about things like yoga, yoga clothing, props the search engines are going to start giving your site the reputation for those words.
How does something like a web page get a reputation? The search engines take note of what you are saying are the most important words that describe your web page.
Then, they categorize you so that when someone is searching for those same words. Your page will get served up with any others that have those same keyword marketing phrases too.
So, here I get online, and I’m looking for a yoga mat. I go to Google and do a search for “yoga mats.” Do you think Google serves up your page to me at all?
What Is Your Site About?
You told them your site is about yoga.
So the chances of me ever finding your site is pretty close to zero.
Here, let’s do a Google search for the phrase “yoga” right now.
Go ahead, pull up another browser and let’s do this exercise together.
Right as I write this article, there are a total of 700,000,000 pages that have “yoga” as one of their keywords.
That’s a lot of pages to compete with! Yours is just a little site. “yoga mats.”
Let’s do a quick search for that. Oh wow, only 9,000,000 pages have that more specific keyword phrase in their .
What are the chances that I will be able to find your page if you are competing with 9 million pages versus 700 million pages? Um, sorry to say both are millions and millions of pages to compete against!
The Best Keyword:
So, what do you do?
If you are new to your niche market online, the best keyword marketing strategy is this.
Pick about 8 keyword phrases that describe what your site offers.
That don’t have a billion competing pages. Just do a search in Google and see how many pages you would be competing with.
Go to Jaaxy.com and do a search for the phrases you have chosen, and make sure they have enough people actually searching for those phrases!
If you have a great keyword phrase that doesn’t have a lot of competing pages, but only 2 people per month search for that phrase, you aren’t going to get many visitors to your site!
Unless you are a household name like McDonalds your business name or product as a keyword marketing phrase is not as valuable to you as using a more descriptive word such as “best yoga mats 2019”
Once you have put your keyword phrases, it is imperative that you actually use those words in the content of that page!
If you are telling the search engines that you want to be known for “best yoga mats” but never mention that phrase ever in that page.
Become The Expert:
Will you get a reputation for being an expert in the area of yoga mats?
Chances are slim to none.
So, search engines look for what you say your site is expert on, and then looks through your content to see that you really are an expert in that field because your page talks all about things relating to your keywords.
They take note, and the next time someone does a search for your keywords, your site makes it into the list of pages that are served up to them.
Choosing The Right Keywords Is Of The Utmost Importance
Get advice from people in all walks of life including management, employees, customers, vendors, friends and family on how they would search for effective search engine positioning keywords.
Ask them how they would search for different products and services. It’s really not about what you think they would search for, it is about what they think.
Believe me, they can many times be two totally different things. Once you have successfully harvested a meaningful keyword list, remove any keywords that are too targeted or not to specific.
Also, remember that keyword placement is important. Try to put as many keywords as possible in the beginning paragraphs, and of course the title line.
The higher the value of the keyword the more competition you will have.
Use a Search Engine Tool:
Every SEO utilizes tools similar to the Jaaxy Keyword Suggestion Tool and also know the value of a keyword. The lower the value of the keyword the less competition we will have. We don’t want to aim to low but we also don’t want to aim to high.
We need to find a middle ground. It will be up to you to determine what you deem reasonable. Also, the keywords should appear regularly throughout the opening Web page.
It is especially important that they appear frequently in the opening paragraphs. However, resist the temptation to overuse keywords. The search engines can spot it and will reduce your page rankings.
Tools are available to help with optimal keyword density. However, avoid software that writes the site’s pages. Search engines can sniff these out, too.
A good rule of thumb is: Never sacrifice quality of content for keyword placement. This will affect your page ranking. Most importantly, your site won’t appeal to visitors.
