How To Make Money Online With Amazon

Amazon have set up an affiliate program called Amazon Associates Program. The theory behind the Amazon Associates program is amazingly simple. By sending traffic to the Amazon website, you will earn a commission on all the sales that result from any visitors that you send.

This is great because it means you do not have to get involved in product fulfillment. You have no stock to store, you dont have to pick and ship orders and, perhaps most importantly of all, you dont need to get involved in any customer service activities. All you have to do is be purely a marketing machine and send traffic to Amazons site.

Of course, the real trick in fact the key to making this all work – is to send traffic to the Amazon site at a cost that is less than the revenue you receive from Amazon. If you are able to do that, then you can definitely make a tidy profit in the process.

Now, their are a number of options open to you for creating traffic. You can create traffic for free by writing articles, creating your own blog or even by setting up a website of your own and going through the lengthy process of optimizing your website for the search engines so that your website is listed near the top of the search results. These three methods are time consuming, but they will get you results if you stick with them.

Another way of generating traffic, which unfortunately is not free, is to create advertising campaigns using one of the many pay-per-click options that exist. This means using Google Ads or the similar services offered by Bing.

If you hadn’t already noticed, every time you do a search in Google, you will see a series of paid advertisements down the right-hand-side. You can create adverts that will be displayed when the user types in specific search terms.

So you can pick specific products from the Amazon website to promote and set up a specific pay-per-click campaign for each of these products. Each time the user clicks on one of your adverts, Google will charge you for the click, hence the term pay-per-click. You, in turn, point the user to Amazons website. If this whole process costs you less than the commission you receive, then you make a profit.

Are you an affiliate? Or do you want to make money online as an affiliate? If that sounds like you, I’m going to make it worth your while to read the whole of this article. Unless you are choosing the right affiliate programs (and products) to promote, you’re going to struggle to make any money online.

Let’s not waste any time trying to crack small unproven niches. We want to go where the big boys (and girls) are already raking in the cash. So how do we find them? Simple, go to Amazon, eBay, Internet forums, and any other similar sites and see what is selling. In places like Amazon and eBay look for top sellers, best-sellers, or categories with many products and reviews. See what is selling.

You are finding a market. Not just any market, but a proven market, one which already has buyers, who will happily give their money away to get what they want. These are the people we are after.

Let’s look at the health and well being niche. It’s a huge market with lots of products in a range of categories, e.g. weight loss, fitness, alternative medicine etc. Each of these can be subdivided further, e.g. how to lose 10 pounds, get a six-pack, stop smoking etc it’s massive. Use the popularity and market size to get an idea of what’s selling and what people want, because that’s what you’re going to give them, and they’ll pay you for the trouble.

Find An Affiliate Program That Pays

Make revenue

You want to find affiliate products that you can promote that directly target the market you have just uncovered. You can find digital products at, and physical products from Rakuten and Awin. All of these offer revenue sharing or affiliate relationships with vendors.

You want to find a program/product that pays you a high commission you’re doing all the work after all. I always look for over 50% on digital products, sometimes you’ll be able to get up to 75% commission, so you actually make more per sale than the vendor! On physical products look for over 10%.

Ideally the affiliate program/products should provide you with secure links so you can avoid affiliate link theft, and if possible have link tracking.

The vendor should also have a good sales process, well written (professional) sales letters, an easy way to contact customer support and excellent customer support. Also, see if they have an automated follow up system in place, as you can get paid on sales made at a later date if a proper autoresponder/newsletter system is in place.

Another thing to look out for is if you can get paid by referring other affiliates. Some vendors will offer you a commission on all sales made by affiliates you refer, or have products for their affiliates with which you can earn commission on (as well as the normal products).

Selling a range of health products, primarily supplements. They have an excellent system for affiliates, providing a range of creatives such as banners and also give their affiliates a free website for each product. They provide detailed conversion tracking reports and their websites all have great marketing systems and copy in place to maximize sales.

Health supplements are a booming marketing and it looks like it will continue for a long while, so this would be one affiliate program definitely worth joining.

  1. Great article. I loved that you gave guidance on what percentage of revenue to expect from a digital product vs. a physical product. Amazon is a great place to start and it makes sense to seek out those products that are best sellers and/or higher ticket items. I will need to keep this guidance in mind going forward.

    • Hello Jamie,

Thank you for taking the time to read my article.

Glad to see you were able to get some useful information from this post.

      Regards Shane.

  2. Very informative article. I personally have been an Amazon Associate and I must say that it can be very profitable. However, the commission rates are quite low, so you really do need to be sending a lot of traffic there to start making good money.

One plus about it is even if the person you send does not buy the product you sent them for, you will still get commissions on anything else that they buy. They are cookied to your affiliate link for 24hrs, so in that time anything they buy from Amazon will get you paid.

Also, it they happen to place the item in their cart but don’t purchase you can still make commissions. As long as the item is in their cart you will get commissions for anything else that they buy.

Have you had any success with Amazon? If so were there specific products that you promoted?

    • Hello Steven,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Commissions are low and for this reason I have not really pushed Amazon hard, this is why I have had very little success with them.

      Regards Shane.

  3. This has been a nice read. I have spent so much money on Amazon. I think that if you tour around my house, more than half of the items have been bought at Jeff Bezos’ place. So, now it’s cool to know I can actually make money from his platform. Thank you for explaining us how this is possible.

    • Hello Abel,

Thank you for the positive feedback.

Time to get some money back from Jeff.

      Regards Shane.
