There is one tried and tested rule in generating income for your website. A regular stream of website traffic. If no one goes to your website, it hardly bares a chance of generating an income.
Lots of sites have tried and failed in doing so, and these result in the sites failing. It takes capital to support an income generating website; it also takes capital to create capital. Ever think how big sites push traffic to their site?
The majority of them are spending lots of money to push the traffic to their sites, investing in lots of advertising campaigns and alternate forms of marketing.
This is all profitable because, in fact, they are now, high earning, big websites.
You don’t need to do this if you don’t have their resources.
There are various ways to create low cost website traffic without having to run through what you don’t have or can’t afford.
Lots of people have relied on high cost methods to create a steady stream of website traffic and ended up losing their shirt over it.
Before you spend hundreds of dollars on website advertising, you should consider cost effective ways to promote your site for free.
Some people think that you can just submit your site to the search engines and then sit back and watch the sales come in, but this is one of many Internet marketing mistakes.
I came to the conclusion that it was going to take a little bit more effort to see the results I wanted.
1. Article Writing:
The people who read your articles will most likely click the link in your resource box and this will send visitors to your website.
If you write an informative article, people will recognize you as an expert and will want to find out more information about you and your business.
Every person who publishes your article must also include the resource box with your website link in it.
The more articles you have published, the more backlinks you will have to your website.
This will help increase your search engine ranking and page rank over time.
2. Posting To Forums:
There are many forums on the Internet on every topic you can think of.
Many forums will allow you to attach a signature to your post.
Many times this signature can include a link back to your website or an affiliate link.
You should pick a few forums to visit regularly on topics related to your website and answer questions and make informative posts.
After a while you will build a good reputation with the other members and they will trust you, and you will get free exposure to your website.
Some posts receive thousands of visitors. Posting to forums can also be indexed by the search engines.
Be sure to make a useful contribution to the forum and don’t just spam.
3. Reciprocal Linking:
- Swap Links
- There are two main benefits to reciprocal linking
This is a tried and proven technique to increase traffic.
Rarely will you see a site where their is no link to another site.
Most webmasters are inclined to exchange links with other sites so that they may increase more public awareness about their sites.
You’ll shortly see and feel the quick surge of the traffic coming in to your site from other sites.
A major requirement in swapping links with other sites is having the same niche or content as the other site.
They should share a common subject so that their is continuity in the providing of service and information to what interests your target traffic.
Exchanging links also boosts your chances of obtaining a top ranking in search engine results.
It is generally known that search engines ranks high sites that have inbound and outbound theme-related links.
With a top ranking place in the search engines, you will create more traffic in your website without the high costs.
The more links you exchange with other websites, the more of a chance the person will click on your link leading to your website.
More links to your site will increase your page rank and it will be perceived as more important by the search engines.
There are some things to avoid when exchanging links with other websites.
You should link to sites that will be of interest to your visitors. And also link to sites related to your site content.
You should not link to sites that have hundreds of links on one page or a very unorganized directory, this can hurt you in the search engines.
Only link to sites that have a clearly labeled link page and not hidden where no one can see or click.
Do not post to FFA link farms. This is a waste of time and will not get you any traffic. It also might get you banned from search engines.
Keep track of all your link exchanges with software or a contact sheet.
Also, makes sure that your link partners have not removed your link from their website.
4. Email Signatures:
This is the oldest and simplest way to get traffic to your website
Millions of us send e-mail everyday, but most of us just sign our name or nothing at all at the end of a message.
Try including your name with a URL, tag line or slogan.
Keep it short and to the point and avoid shouting at someone or hype.
You will be amazed at how many visitors this will bring you.
People will click your link out of curiosity and send traffic to your site.
5. Traffic Exchanges:
Traffic Exchange services are the watching of another’s site or page.
This is done vice versa where a site can use your sites contents and so can you to his or her site.
You both benefit from each others efforts to generate traffic.
The other sites visitors can go to your pages and learn more about your site as well as theirs.
Once again the public awareness of your sites existence is boosted.
This is the easiest way to generate free traffic to your website.
You can surf for free credits or build a down line and receive free credits for the sites that they surf.
The only bad thing about this is the visitors will not be as targeted as the other four methods.
Most people surf traffic exchanges for one reason only and that is to surf as many pages as possible in the shortest amount of time to gain credits for their website.
So how do you grab the attention of someone who is only looking at your website for 30 seconds?
Spend some time surfing and learn what type of market it is.
You are going to want to advertise a site that is going to be of interest to the people on the exchange.
Use a lead capture page instead of your sales page.
If people are only looking at your site for 30 seconds they are more likely to request more info than sign up for a program on your sales page.
Write and Submit Articles:
There are lots of e-zines and online encyclopedias in the internet which provides free space for articles to be submitted.
If you require saving costs, you can do the articles yourself.
There are many freelance writers who are able to write for you for a low fee, but saving money, it is expedient to do those articles yourself.
Create articles that are themed along with the niche of your site.
Write something that you have knowledge on so that when they read it, they can experience your knowledge on the subject and will be keen to go to your site.
Create articles that produce tips and guidelines to the subject or niche your site has.
Include a resource box at the end of your article that can link them to your site. Write a little about yourself and your site.
If you provide a light, information-laden and interesting article, they will go to your site for more.
Make a Newsletter:
This may seem like hard work because of all the articles you may need to use to put together a newsletter but on the contrary, this is not so.
There are many writers and sites that are inclined to provide free articles as long as they can get their ‘Authors Bio’ in on your newsletter.
This also provides free advertising for them as well.
As your newsletter gets circulated, you can widen your public awareness and create an opt-in list that can increase traffic to your site.
Join Online Communities and Forums
This only requires your time and not much else.
You can share your knowledge and expertise with many online communities as well as your website.
You can get free advertising when you go to forums that have the same subject or niche with your site.
Share your thoughts and let them see how knowledgeable you are with the subject.
As you create your reputation, you also create the reputation of your site, making it a reputable and honest business that could be frequented and trusted by many people.
OK there you go a few ideas on how to get some free traffic when starting out.
